Re-ordered tracks, different album art ... it doesn't matter I bought this album in the late '70s out of blind curiosity and it quickly became one of my desert island essentials. So when I needed it on CD, it took a while to figure out this was the record I was looking for, since it had been camouflaged with a cheesy touristy painting. No matter -- for years I thought this was a "greatest hits" compilation, because every song is so quintessential and solid. No, it was Fess's comeback album, as it turned out, and while the session itself has that "lightning in a bottle" quality of, say, Layla, the songs had all been sitting in that recipe book of his brain waiting to be re-cooked by a master chef. You need this. You're welcome.
