Description
2009 release. The best-selling female pop vocalist of the early 1960's, Brenda Lee was an international megastar who sold over 100 million records all before she was 21. And while it is true to say she reached the greatest number of record buyers by recording ballads, she also possessed one of the toughest Rock 'N' Roll voices of that era: THE greatest, according to John Lennon. Superb booklet generously illustrated with rare records and memorabilia. 28 tracks. Ace.

This is one feel good, rockin' collection of Brenda Lee's earlier music. Some are difficult to find on C.D. All songs are up-tempo rocker's.As of Sept 12, 2012 the 28 tracks listed by Amazon are correct for this C.D.(track #1 ~ 'Rock the bop' & track #28 'What'd I say')I've been a fan of Brenda Lee's music for many years, and have a variety of packages of Brenda Lee hits.To decide if this compilation added any thing to what I already have, I did some comparing. This is what I found after comparing Volume one & two of Brenda's anthology set, produced by Andy Mc Kaie's in 1991 & 92 ~ these following songs aren't on that set. There numbered below by the number they are on this album 'Queen of rock 'n' roll'1. Rock the bop ~ released in 1957 but failed to chart.4. Anybody but me ~ 1961 top 40 hit.5. Here comes that feelin' ~ 1962 top 100.6. Let the four winds blow ~ M.C.A. compilation L.P. in 1975.11. Crazy talk ~ from 'Emotions' L.P. 1961.15. Talkin' 'bout you ~ from 'All the way' L.P. in 1961.17. Love you till I die ~ released in 1957 but failed to chart.18. Hummin' the blues over you ~ released in 1959.21. The stroll ~ M.C.A. compilation L.P. in 1975.22. My baby likes western guys ~ from 'Brenda Lee' L.P. in 1960.23. Ring-a-my phone ~ Brenda's 7th single and the b-side of 'Little Jonah (rock on your steel guitar) 1958.24. Just a little ~ 1960 top 40 hit.25. Rock-a-bye baby blues ~ released in 1957 but failed to chart.28. What'd I say ~ recorded in 1964 and the U.K. (only) b-side of 'Is it true'.This version of 'Is it true' is the original 1964 single hit version that was a top twenty hitin the U.S. in 1964, and 'What'd I say' was the b-side of it in the U.K.In the U.S. 'Is it true' had 'Just behind the rainbow' as it's b-side.As it happened that year, Brenda's recording session was at Decca's No 2 Studio in London's West Hampsted. So here are 14 additional tracks not on the anthology set,(which by the way both volumes are analog to digital transfer)and that's enough for me to purchase this energizing collection. All original recordings ~ twenty-one tracks are stereo ~ seven are mono. This C.D. has excellent sound and is total listening pleasure.Includes an excellent 16 page booklet of b/w as well as colored photo's and liner notes.
