#4 in this series has some interesting "lost hits", if you will. Lulu's "Morning Dew" was popularized by Tim Rose who allegedly 'borrowed' it and claimed co-writer credit from a composition by Canadian artist, Bonnie Dobson. Tim Rose's interpretation of The Leaves' garage rock classic "Hey Joe" was similarly disputed for songwriter credit after he did a slow, angry version of it that ultimately made it to ex-Animals Chas Chandler while he was managing Jimi Hendrix. The rest is history, though I prefer The Leaves original hit.The rockin' original version of "Kind Of A Drag" is featured in stereo here as well as an interesting cover by Jan & Dean of the studio group Yellow Balloon's pop hit "Yellow Balloon".The British folk duo Chad & Jeremy as well as Chad & Jill (his wife) are represented here with a somewhat rare mid-chart song "Distant Shores" (US #30) and the Pete Seeger-composed song that was an album favorite from Peter, Paul, & Mary, "The Cruel War".Though the Rock Artifacts comps were released in the early 90's, the audio quality on everything in the series is outstanding!
