Description
Product Description He's toured all over the world, sold 25 million records and hung out with some of the hottest women on the planet. Now Bret Michaels is looking for that special girl who can compete with his one true love, the insatiable bitch goddess known as Rock & Roll. But what happens when 25 sexy ladies battle each other for an all-access pass to this superstar s heart? From the out-of-control premiere episode to the shocking finale, re-live all the name calling, dirty talking, face sucking, backstabbing, partying, puking, tattooing and other acts of passion in this unforgettable first season of the 'CelebReality' phenomenon that rocked your world! "IT S LIKE A BACKSTAGE PASS TO THE WILDEST LATE- 80s POISON AFTER-PARTY! You Feel Ashamed For Watching It, And Even More So For Liking It!" Dalton Ross, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY Amazon.com Flush with the runaway success of Flavor of Love, in which a platoon of women try to win the heart of Public Enemy's manic hype man Flavor Flav, VH1 apply the same reality show/spectacle formula to another chart topper gone south of the pop culture radar: Poison singer Bret Michaels. The result, dubbed Rock of Love, essentially follows the same format as Flav's show: The allegedly lovelorn Michaels cohabitates in a fantasy playground house with a cross-section of wild and wanton women, each of whom are put through salacious challenges (the most appalling of which is a bout of improvised phone sex, with Michaels' ardor measured by a sort of blood pressure cuff attached to his manhood) in order to win the right to call him their man. There's no point tuning in to Rock of Love if you're easily offended or find reality shows debased entertainment; the consistent leering tone and barnyard behavior of some of the contestants will simply confirm your opinion that shows like these contribute to the decline of Western civilization. All others may be surprised to note that despite his inability to conclude a sentence without using the word "awesome" (and his curious bandana-dependent hairstyle), Michaels makes for an ingratiating star; he's wholly aware that he's in the center ring of this circus, and his comments occasionally display a dry and even self-deprecating wit. The show also has a terrific "villainess" in Lacey Connor, who understands that she's playing a game and gleefully wreaks psychological terror on her opponents by (gasp!) strategizing her next moves. Having said that, no one should mistake Rock of Love for clever or even partially thought-out entertainment, but the presence of Michaels and Connor do set the show a step or two above the out-and-out sideshow that is Flavor of Love. All 13 episodes (including the reunion show) are included in this three-disc set, which also includes several extended and deleted scenes. Those seeking the real raunch that was trimmed for broadcast will find a more graphic version of the phone sex competition and several scenes featuring the contestants in their birthday suits; given the tone of the entire series, it seems odd that the bare flesh in this set would remain pixilated. -- Paul Gaita

I first watched this on VH1 when I just stumbled upon it while channel surfing and the second episode was on. For whatever reason, I was hooked right away! I ended up watching re-runs of the first episode to see what I missed, and tuned in for every single episode thereafter.I was in high school when Poison was at the peak of their career and, although I did listen to some of their songs, I wasn't exactly a "die hard" Poison fan. I didn't hate 'em or anything, I just didn't get what the big deal was about big-haired, pink lipstick wearing Bret Michaels - LOL. But this reality series shows different sides of him, and very different fans (as well as girls on the show who weren't fans as they never even heard his music). Now I certainly don't believe the entire series was "unscripted" at all. I didn't think Bret would find his one true love using this "method" either. But it WAS just fun to watch! Seeing these girls compete in various challenges for dates was quite entertaining. At the same time, I don't believe the entire series WAS "scripted" either. The girls competing to win had numerous ups & downs and I do think a few of them were sincere and, when stuff got to them, their tears were real. I could only imagine what living in that house was like... and I must admit that I don't think some of these women had enough talent to pull off "acting" throughout the series anyway. Not trying to put them down, I'm just saying I think certain ones weren't crying or fighting "for the cameras" only. You see girls who obviously truly like Bret and want to be with him and I do believe he DID make a connection with some of them (though not enough to turn their relationship into a marriage or even long term boyfriend/girlfriend committment). You also see girls who are beautiful, some wild and some more laid back. Some are hilarious while others are airheads & annoying. With Bret Michaels being "the bachelor" here though, it was bound to be a wild ride! Whether you like him or not, he IS a very successful musician and although I'm not one of them, many girls DO believe he's the "hottest" rock star ever (or at least during the "big haired 80's bands era). The vindictive & manipulative Lacey was one girl on the show I couldn't stand. Even if she IS truly a nice a person "off camera" and was playing it up and playing along for the cameras, her antitcs did get quite irritating after awhile. As far as being unrated, I honestly didn't give it much thought when I ordered it. It IS still censored as cuss words are still bleeped out, just like when it aired on TV, and certain exposed girls' body parts are still blurred out. But you do still know what was said when a swear word was bleeped (or what was shown when a part of the body was blurred!) The guys just gotta use their imagination when it comes to that I guess! But other than a few girls being topless, I can't recall any other "blurs." I didn't really care about the bleeping of the swearing either since, as I said, you know what they're saying anyway. I CAN, however, understand someone being upset if they ordered this under the impression that it was completely uncensored though.I didn't really get into Season Three, but I do hope Season Two is released soon! The first season IS my favorite, however. One of my fave episodes is the music competition as I thought Sam did an EXCELLENT job with the lyrics to her song. But I WAS hoping Jess & Brandy would win. The way they ROCKED that competition was so adorable and original! I also enjoyed the episode with the football challenge since I did end up liking Jess & she became one of my fave girls on the show. She's one heck of an athlete! And, of course, the episode with the parents visiting... MY GAWD! The long awaited fight that pursued between Heather & Lacey was one thing but having Lacey's father of all people in the middle of it all, being the way that he is, well, like I said, MY GAWD! I did enjoy the episode when they went to Vegas as well. Oh, and with regard to THAT one, another thing I don't think was scripted was when after one girl passed out completely drunk at the dinner table, another girl began vomiting right into her napkin. (Ahhh, the glamorous life of dating a rock star!) LOL.I didn't take this show seriously as far as it being a COMPLETELY REAL reality series, but I do think quite a bit of it WAS real. And I certainly didn't take the fact that Bret was really going to find the love of his life from this group of girls that he was "living with" for a short period of time & getting to know. But it was fun to watch, had a lot of funny moments and, again, I just became addicted to it to the point that I ended up having to have the series on DVD! Not because I was a huge Bret Michaels "super fan" or because I took the entire show seriously and believed it was all true, but just because it was simply highly entertaining to me.
