2013 collection. Nippon Rock 'n' Roll documents the rise of Masaaki Hirao. Dubbed "The Japanese Elvis", he was one of the famed Rokabirii Sannin Otoko (Three Rockabillies), alongside singers Mickey Curtis and "Kei-chan", Keijiro Yamashita. This is an interesting bit of Japanese Rock and Roll. Due in part to the "live concert" acoustics replete with screaming female fans, the album is not a crystal clear studio recording. Masaaki Hirao was to Japan what Elvis was to the USA. Many familiar songs open with the lead in lines sung in English, Hirao then makes the switch to Japanese. Try to keep in mind when listening to this that only a dozen years earlier, the United States and Japan were locked in bloody combat for almost four years.
